Newport, Rhode Island
Ohana House
Overlooking Newport harbor, this home was designed for a family whose Newport history spans through many generations. The clients are based in Hawaii, and make lengthy seasonal visits to connect with their family. Ohana means family in Hawaiian. The gambrel style roof line with its long sweeping curve brings tradition to the design and effortlessly tucks the design into the narrow-shaped lot. The cottage scaling of the street front elevation allows this large scaled home to blend with the tight knit character of these waterside neighborhood homes. Natural weathering Alaskan yellow cedar shingles and mahogany accents reinforce traditional coastal design and connect this home to its nautical neighbors.
